Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Lion in Rudbaxton church One of the many memorials to the military Pictons in this their family church, this one recalls Major General John Picton who died in 1815: "with a constitution broken down by fatigue, and exhausted by long Residence in a tropical climate" having served the whole of the Revolutionary War in Flanders, Holland and the East Indies - hence, one supposes, the lion although it has to be said that the local sculptor must never have seen one in real life!
