Description

Print. Colour reproduction of the port side of the three-masted clipper, M.P.Grace (1875), a full-rigged, cargo-carrying 'Down Easter' on starboard tack with the topmost sails reefed and the fore and mizzen royals and the lowest mizzen (course) sail loosely furled to the yards. On the foredeck men can be seen working at the jibs. The American flag (Stars and Stripes) flies from the stern rigging, the Chapman and Flint house flag from the main topgallant mast and, from the the top of the foremast, a single blue flag. The racing waves and flying foam suggest a strong wind and, in the distance to the right, a schooner sails towards a hilly headland.
