Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Malham Tarn: Bogbean in flower The Bogbean Menyanthes trifoliata is one of our prettiest wild flowers and grows in spongy bogs, marshes and shallow water throughout Europe. This photograph was taken on the alkaline fen on the shores of Malham Tarn. The plant has a long history in herbalism being used as a remedy against scurvy; Scharbock, its German name, is a corruption of the Latin scorbutus, the old medical name for the disease.
