ornbury for further ferry privileges, and suc-ceeded in procuring the charter of 1708, in which, in addition to their formerfranchises, they were granted the land between high and low water, along theEast river, on the Long Island side, from Wallabout to Eed Hook, a grant whichprotected the Corporation from competition on the part of ferrymen at differentpoints along that shore. The Corporation were also allowed to establish addi-tional ferries within those limits. The result of the efforts of the city authoritiesto bring their incomes up to the amount of expenditures soon became apparent,and we find the following account of income and expenditure in 1710: Annual Income, 1710. £. s. d.
