While Americans have always taken a certain interest in oldOxford, public attention was not centered upon it to any great extentuntil the death of Cecil Rhodes and the founding of the Rhodes schol-arships. Immediately following the announcement of this great giftcame the call to Dr. Osier to accept the regius professorship to thatuniversity. Then interest awoke, and probably one of the strongestAnglo-American ties was fo/med. American boys, up for final examina-tions at that historic school, lose much of the fear that usually surroundssuch an occasion when they find that the genial, kindly, diplomatic DrOsier is the examiner.
