Figure VIII shows the completed operation previous to the placing of thedressing. The two ends of the gauze packing are left protruding, to facili-tate removal. Safety pins have been passed through the tube ends, and tothese have been attached strips of adhesive plaster, so as to guard againsta premature slipping out of the tubes. Fig. VIII.—The Completed Operation (Fuller). 70 CITY HOSPITAL MEDICAL AXD SURGICAL REPORT The following clinical reports ser\-e to illustrate the surgical procedureadvocated in cases coming under observation long after the original injury: Case I, 23 years old, on entering the City Hospital, could not walkwithout support, nor could he void urine. All the urine leaked awaythrough a perineal sinus. There was constant and severe pain in the regionof the pelvis. Several months before, while working in a mine, his pelvis had beencaught between two cars. Retention followed the pelvic injury. He wassent to a local hospital, where a perineal opening was made, and it was outof that opening that the urine was passing when he entered the CityHospital. An X-ray picture showed that there had been a fracture of the pelvis.The injury had also caused thorough disorganization of the deep urethra, sothat complete occlusion had resulted. Rectal examinat
