In later years he presided at thereunions of the old drill corps, and in thefuneral procession, directly in front of thebody of their dead leader, marched mem-bers of the original drill corps, those whoserved under him during the years 1877 to1880. The new drill corps of the com-mandery, as a mark of respect to the oldveteran, conferred upon him the honorarytitle of inspector-general, and gladlysought his advice and counsel. On be-coming eminent commander in 1875 hebecame by right a member of the GrandCommandery of the State of New York,where he quickly began his upward marchto the highest honor. Each year he wasadvanced in rank until in 1892 he waselected grand commander of KnightsTemplar in the State of New York, havingheld every subordinate office. From the York Rite Mr. Loder passedto the Scottish Rite and held the thirty-two degrees conferred by the Consistory,Valley of Rochester. In its early years hetook active part in the Benevolent andProtective Order of Elks, and was exaltedruler of Rochester Lodge. He was alsoa member of the Veiled Prophets, at onetime supreme monarch of the UnitedStates and monarch of Lalla RookhGrotto. In 1872 Mr. Loder met William J.Florence, who had obtained a ritual inEgypt, upon which he founded the An-cient Arabic Order Nobles of the MysticShrine, an order which, while notMasonic in character, but purely socialin nature, cannot be gained save byKnights Templar Masons or by thirty-second degree Masons of the Scottish Rite.Mr. Loder became at once deeply interest-ed, received the degree, and became oneof
