Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Memorial to the 26 children who died in the Huskar Pit Disaster. Twenty six children lost their lives on 4th July 1838 when a freak storm caused the surrounding streams to overflow and surge into the pit where the children were working. As a consequence of this disaster Queen Victoria set a royal commission in progress to enquire into the women and children working in mines. The memorial can be viewed from the access path into Nabbs Wood.
