( 67 ) These castings are of great importance in the history ofbronze-founding. They could only have been produced bythe cera perduta, or wax process, and by the use of a hotmould. Seventh and Eighth Centuries. Two events of marked importance in Japanese annals, onaccount of their influence on the development of the arts andculture, occurred during this period. Buddhism, which hadbeen introduced about 552 a.d., had been adopted as thereligion of the country, through the energy and enthusiasm ofPrince Shotoku Taishi (593 to 621 a.d.), and a fixed capitaland court had, for the first time in Japanese history, beenestablished at Kara (709 a.d.).
