English: Middle East Sergeant's Wife Does Signalman's Job- Life As a Railway Signalwoman, Molland, Devon, England, UK, 1943 Signalwoman Daisy Cook, second from right, enjoys a game of Newmarket at Furze Hill Farm, Molland, Devon. Playing cards with her are the farmer Bill Petts, his housekeeper Mrs Ayre and Mrs Ayre's daughter Phyllis. Reading a book on the right of the photograph is Bill Petts' 12-year-old grandson, Frank. Sitting on Phyllis' shoulder is macaw, which was a present from Mr Petts' daughter, who is a nurse in India. Daisy is staying at Furze Hill Farm for the duration of the war, having moved with her daughter Joan from their home in Barnstaple. The family's wireless is visible on the wall to the left of the photograph. |
