| Description |
In 1307 stichtte de de orde der Minderbroeders (Franciscanen) een klooster in Roermond. Naast dit klooster werd in de in de 15e eeuw deze kerk gebouwd, die na verwoestingen, plunderingen en branden in de loop der eeuwen tenslotte haar huidige vrom kreeg. De kerk bleef in handen van de Minderbroeders tot 1796, toen de kerk door de Fransen werd gesloten en werd ingericht voor de paarden van het leger. De Hervormde Gemeente kreeg in 1020 een deel van de kerk en in 1864 het gehele gebouw in bezit. Tussen 1906 en 1908 werd de kerk o.l.v. Pierre Cuypers gerestaureerd. Later zijn nog meer restauraties uitgevoerd (1947 en 1975). De kerk werd bij de aardbeving van 1992 zwaar beschadigd. Er volgde een 2 jaar durende restauratie.
