Summary[edit]
DescriptionMinkuo Tungpao (Hartill 431.23.7).png |
English: The nearly two and a half thousand years of cast Chinese coinage concludes with the Minguo Tongbao coin from T’ungchuan/Tungchuan/Domgxhuan/Domgchuan/Dongchuan in the province of Yunnan, these coins were created in 2 (two) variants, one (1) was the smaller 1 wén coin as ome can see in this picture 📷 with the much bigger, and much, much more expensive 10 wén coin that is much rarer to find, these coins were exclusively cast in the year 1912 in the aforementioned city 🏙 in the province of Yunnan and probably didn't circulate much in the Republic of China, however the mere fact that these coins bore the inscription “Circulating Treasure of the Republic {of China}” shows that in the early Republican era when China/Taiwan was still ruled by various warlords, cliques, and political factions that the call for modernisation had yet to reach all aspects of life, as these coins were only produced briefly it is unknown whether the inefficient casting method or the rampaging inflation caused its eventual and swift discontinuation, concurrently in the Province of Fukien/Fujian the Fu Kien Tung Pao/Fukien Tungpao/Fu Jian Tong Bao/Fujian Tongbao coin was also being produced with initial plans to launch 3 series of Shengzao, with new coins being made named after Fuzhou City 🏙. Plans for the continuation of cash coins in the early Republic of China were only continued with the coins that were “denominated in cash-only” until 1928, these coins however would continue to circulate in rural China well into the 1950’s.
