Occasionally other muscles are implicated. Tie patel-lar- and Achilles-tendon reflexes are at first diminished and laterabolished. The electric reaction of the atrophied muscles varies—is normal in some cases, disturbed in others—irrespective of thestate of the atrophy. Fibrillar twitchings are common. The KSSS&b.course of the disease is very slow and interrupted by remissionsof variable length, and judging by the underlying pathologicanatomy of the affection (degeneration of the respective peripheral nerves, with slight implication of tin- spinal cord) h isper se probably not fatal.
