Summary[edit]

Description
English: Motte Hill. The motte or Motte Hill is a flat-topped mound situated on the north-west bank of the Linn Burn (or Kirkton Burn as it used to be known) in the Orry and was likely to have incorporated a broad ditch. The south-east side was truncated in the late 18th century by the building of the Orry mill 1450337 which has resulted in the removal of probably about a third of the site. The motte is likely to be a site of the first wooden castle of the Montgomeries in the 12th century. Other motte sites associated with the Montgomeries can be found at Polnoon Castle 1480519 and at Castlehill 1480575 . Link to other views of Motte Hill 1485579 1617348.
