Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brookes and Their Children

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brookes and Their Children.

This group shows Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brookes in the garden of “Kurneh,” South Yarra, with their three daughters, Cynthia, Elaine and Hersey. As good wine needs no bush, so the exploits of Norman Brookes in the tennis world need no retelling. It suffices to say that wherever a tennis court is laid, his name is known, even unto Mesopotamia. He is the player of his time, graceful, imperturbable and the greatest influence in the Australian tennis world.

Mrs. Norman Brookes is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Emmerton, “Raveloe,” Melbourne, and has many interests. She has published successfully two works: Broken Idols and On the Knees of the Gods, and she has in preparation a new novel entitled, The Service Game, which has a tennis motive running throughout. Many of her articles and stories have been accepted by Australian, American and English magazines. Two of her novels are under offer for film reproduction.

Mrs. Brookes has always been interested in musical matters, and in the past she has aided many clever artists to obtain recognition of their work. She possesses a delightful soprano voice which has been trained by Madame Blanche Marches! and when visiting London always seeks further tuition. She is an excellent hostess, and her entertainments have a charm which commands success.
