| Description |
English: Mussel-covered tongue of beach. This feature is indicated on the 1:25000 map as an accumulation of rocks; it is a structure a little like a sea-wall, and, even near low tide, only its extreme tip, shown here, stands above water within this grid square.
The whole tongue of land is densely covered with mussels; the few areas of rock left free of these are mostly encrusted with barnacles instead. The dark line visible underneath the far shore of the River Clyde is Pillar Bank, also shown here: 1168475. The map makes Pillar Bank seem easy to reach, but it is neither easy, nor safe, to try to do so. |
