English: N7/4 69621 at Sheringham Station N7/4 seen here with the quad art set.
Both built for the London suburban trains and both now unique. Their brothers and sisters being turned into razor blades and ash. The A.J.Hill designed 0-6-2T first appeared in 1915. Eventually twenty-two were GER built at Stratford, all superheated and all with right hand drive. They were scheduled for the intensive Liverpool Street suburban services. The LNER built many more, the class eventually totalling 134 in number. 69621, originally 999, was the last engine built at Stratford, ordered by the GER in 1921 and, finally, completed in 1924. 69621 was a Wood Street engine but finished her days working between Palace Gate and North Woolwich. It is owned by the East Anglian Railway museum www.earm.co.uk and on loan as the NNR paid for it's overhaul. This is the view from Sheringham signal box which was removed from the level crossing in the 1970s platform two to create a museum. http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/crossing.htm Direct comparison http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/graphics/infrastructure/sheringham/1967_crossing.jpg and 1029876 The crossing should go back next year but the signal box may never move again. |
