柳下亭種員作、歌川国芳画の滑稽本。天保15年(弘化元年)(1844)正月、蔦屋重三郎刊、中本1冊。序、天保15年正月の種員の自序に「故人京伝翁の画兄弟は、寛政六年の新版にて、耕書堂の大当りも、五十余年のいにしへながら、世の人今にもてはやす、他の作意も羨ましく」云々とあるように、山東京伝の『絵兄弟』(当館請求記号:208-87)の趣意を踏襲したもの。すなわち異質な二つの対象を一対とし、各描画に意外な類似性を持たせて両者を関係付け、そのこじつけをしかつめらしく批評する遊戯である。番組は1「葛の葉」「招牌書」、2「焼蛤蚌」「蜃気楼」、3「辻講釈」「閻摩王」、4「備後三郎」「奥道者」、5「落雁」「笠招牌」、6「挑灯鐘」「空樽買」、7「仁田四郎」「船工」、8「地蔵尊」「□(虫偏に室)蟷」、9「初平仙人」「紙屑拾」、10「鬼童丸」「旅神楽」。1番を例に取ると、「信田の狐」伝説の「葛の葉」が口で筆を銜えてものを書くという伝えに基づき、看板書きに見立てて兄「葛の葉」と弟「招牌書」の組み合わせとし、それぞれ「晋子(其角)」と「談林調」の発句を配し、口あるいは手に筆を執って文字を書く、両者の相似た図柄を描き、口語による詞書きを添え、丁を改めて、さらにもっともらしい判詞(批評)を加えるという構成である。(鈴木淳)(2017.2)(参考文献)黒澤愛子「『滑稽絵姿合』考」(『学習院大学人文科学論集』22 2013)鈴木奈生「天保末期の「絵兄弟」:『滑稽絵姿合』小考」(『語文論叢』29 2014.7)
