中本(洒落本)。山東京伝著・自画。天明7年序跋(1787)刊。1冊。『百人一首』のパロディ。18首を選び、江戸時代の和歌注釈書の形式(作者の系図・語釈・語注・参考文献の引用など)をもじって、細部まで滑稽に解釈(枉解[おうかい])する。書名の「始衣抄」も吉原の遊女が正月に着る「初衣裳」のもじり。現在でも落語で知られる在原業平「ちはやふる」の枉解が含まれ、和文序の中で作者自身の発案ではないことを明かしている(山口剛、1929.4 中野三敏、1981.10 武藤禎夫、1987.12)が、この面白さが同じ手法を他の和歌にも及ぼすことにつながったか。残り17首は「ちはやふる」の完璧さには及ばないが、それぞれの枉解は、京伝が20歳代後半に達していた知的洗練のレベルの高さを示すに足るものと言える。掲出本は、表紙を除き初印本(西尾市立図書館所蔵など)と同じ書誌的特徴をもつ。(大高洋司)(2018.2)(参考文献)日本名著全集『滑稽本集』解説(山口剛)、同刊行会、1929.4『洒落本大成』第14巻所収『初衣抄』解題(中野三敏)、中央公論社、1981.10岩波文庫『安永期小咄本集』所収『鳥の町』補注(武藤禎夫)、1987.12
