中本型読本(〈中本もの〉)。神屋蓬洲著・自画。文化5年(1808)3月序刊。2巻2冊(合1冊)。題名の「龍孫」は竹の異名。「戞玉(ともずり)」は玉などが触れ合う音で、「竹」の「共擦り」(葉擦れの音)の意か。『竹取物語』を踏まえており、自序とは別に巻之二に添えられた「清香堂のあるじ」の序文では、『万葉集』巻第16「竹取の翁」の長歌が参照されているようである。構成は奇抜で、巻之一は、武士の一行が駿河国三保の浦から昇天しようとする竜の頤の玉を取り、その際の対応をめぐって良識ある「美少年」が他の者たちに謀られる、固有名詞抜きの挿話になっている。「美少年」が鎌倉後期の駿河国主の臣「稲田千種之助」で、他の者たちは国主「仲国」を惰弱に導く悪臣たちであることは、巻之二で紹介されるが、以後本作は、未完の結末まで、仲国に献上された「竜の玉」をめぐって展開していくものと予測される。この「玉」が、『竹取物語』でかぐや姫が七人の求婚者それぞれに要求した入手不可能な宝物を一本化したものであることは言うまでもなく、巻之二後半に登場する竹取の翁の娘「なよ竹」は、求婚する7人の悪臣に「玉」の引き渡しを求める。後編(未完)では、なよ竹が竜または竜女として本体を現す構想なのであろう。なお、掲出本は見返し・奥付丁を伴わず(本文末尾の印記書肆名は貸本屋のものか)書誌情報が整わないが、蓬洲は浮世絵師春川五七と同人である(『原色浮世絵大百科事典』2、大修館書店、1982.8など)。髙木元は、より完備した伝本によって文化6年刊の自画作とする(1995.10)。(大高洋司)(2017.2)(参考文献)髙木元『江戸読本の研究 十九世紀小説様式攷』(ぺりかん社、1995.10)
