Summary[edit]

Description
English: National Museum of Scotland - Wylam Dilly, near to Edinburgh, Great Britain.

Built c1815 by William Hedley and Timothy Hackworth for use on the Wylam Waggonway this is the second oldest surviving locomotive in the world. The oldest is Puffing Billy at the Science musem. Until 2008 it was believed that Wylam Dilly was the oldest but recent research shows it to incorporate improvements that aren't present in Puffing Billy.

There are of course several modern replicas of even earlier locomotives but this is the real deal.
