Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Nelson's Monument The first ever public monument to Nelson was erected in Birmingham after his visit in 1802. At the time he was already a national hero following his victories at Copenhagen and in the Battle of the Nile. It is said that as he approached the town the horses were unhitched from his carriage and men hauled him for the rest of the way as a mark of respect. The statue has recently been renovated and placed in the rebuilt Bull Ring. The picture shows it still bedecked with flowers from Trafalgar Day celebrations.
