| Description |
English: Nobody Inn, Doddiscombsleigh The origin of this name is unknown, which allows free range for all sorts of local tales. One concerns some travellers who knocked at the door one night, but the landlord refused to open the door or admit that he was there. The travellers told people in the next village that nobody was in the pub they had called at, though the locals knew better. Another story tells of a solitary drinking landlord who often called to would-be customers that there was nobody in, and refused to let them enter. There may, on the other hand, have been a joke about a sign that showed some one's head and no body, as many signs do. |
