Description
English: North Steel, Coquet Island These rocks are covered at high tide and are a danger to shipping. One such wreck was the 'Catherine of Sunderland' which was lost here on 14 Nov 1821. The crew of nine men "clung to the rigging for many hours, imploring assistance from an immense crowd of people who were within reach of their cries, but who were unable to assist them from the absence of a life-boat" [Muray's Handbook:1890].
