Friedrich Otto Gebler, bom at Dresden in 1838,went early to Munich, where he studied under Piloty. He paints animal-pictures almost ex- 3IO ART AND ARTISTS OF OUR TIME. cliisively, but his Ininior is not always so genuine as we find it liere, where it grows out of anatural, every-day situation. The morning light is streaming through the cracks and cran-nies of this old barn where the sheep are folded, and they are anxious to get out for a taste offi-esh air and the grass of the pasture.
