Summary[edit]

Description
English: Outcrop of Weybourne Crag Between the remains of a wooden revetment and the cliff base. Layers on top of the chalk (the white outcrop seen in mid-distance) are the Cromer Stone Bed and the Weybourne Crag, which outcrops at some locations along the foreshore. Weybourne Crag dates from about 2 million years ago; it is composed of grey shelly sands that sit on top of a bed of flints, pebbles and shells. Often the crag and stone layers are cemented together by iron pan, giving the deposit a reddish colour. http://www.chesterfieldlodge.fsnet.co.uk/Geology/west%20runton-east%20runton.htm

The revetments are in a state of disrepair; with only the upright posts still in place they provide no protection from wave action. The cliffs beyond show signs of erosion, evidenced by the heaps of sand and other materials that have accumulated at the cliff base due to recent slides.
