Text Appearing Before Image:
Frost came upbehind, and backed him, and there wasthe dead bird on the snow. I called upthe country boy to see the point, and hewas loud in his praise of the performance. Sunday was bright and warmer. Werested in the morning, and in the after-noon went out with dogs and camerato make some photographs, which, how-ever, did not turn out very well. Mon-day the snow began again and the windwas high. It snowed horizontally anddrove us to the lee-side of the thickets.We were out all day, and occasionallyheard the rushing of wings and saw theshadowy forms of birds, which rapidlyvanished in the snow-fog. Our handswere always in our pockets at the wrongtime. We had but one point, and didnot bag a bird. Tuesday the weather cleared again,and we made a farewell tour of all thefields and adjacent thickets, with butpoor success as for the birds ; but theblue sky, the gray line of timber, theyellow corn, the briars sparkling withtheir ice-gems, the cherry cardinals flit-ting about, all delighted us.
