English: Kodiak, Alaska (Oct 26)- A Kodiak man flying a Piper Cub died Thursday of his injuries after he crashed near the seven rivers area on Kodiak Island while on a deer hunt about 84 miles southwest of Kodiak. The man was pronounced dead after he arrived at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center Thursday evening. The Coast Guard received a report of a downed aircraft from the Kenai Flight Service Station (KFSS) at 3:51 p.m. KFSS received a report from an eyewitness in another aircraft that saw thePiper Cubcrash. A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Kodiak was immediately launched with two Aviation Survival Technicians who are qualified Emergency Medical Technicians. The Jayhawk crew located the crash site at 4:48 p.m. The aircrew founda suitable place to land about 150 yards away from the wrecked plane. The aircrew removed the man and began performing CPR. The crew maintained CPR throughout the 50-minute flight to the Spruce Cape helicopter pad in Kodiak. The man was transferred to an Ambulance for further transport to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center. The name of the man is being withheld pending next of kin notification. USCG photo by LT.
