is.—Curator,M. Gustave Macon. The medisBval castle of Chantilly, founded in the 9th cent., belongedto the Seigneura de Senlis until the middle of the 14th century. Rebuiltin 1886-93 by the DOrgeraonts, it came by inheritance to the Montmorencyfamily. The CovMable Anne de Montmorency (1492-1567), who sharedthe campaigns and the artistic tastes of Francis I., employed PierreChambiyes to alter and embellish the chateau, to which the Chatelet(see above) was afterwards added. Duke Henri of Montmorency, Annes(rrandson, was executed in 1632 for his connection with the rebelliousDuke of Orleans, and his possessions passed to his brother-in-law, PrinceHenri II. of Bourbon-Cond6.
