| Description |
English: Peterborough North station, with an Up freight. View northward from Crescent Bridge, towards Grantham and the North: ex-GN ECML; over on the left is ex-Midland line to Leicester etc., from which the M&GN line to Sutton Bridge etc. branched. The Up Class E freight (headed by BR 9F 2-10-0 No. 92041 (built 12/54, withdrawn 8/65) is occupying the only Up Through platform line at the station - demonstrating the severe traffic bottleneck, especially in the Up direction, before the station was completely rebuilt in the 1970s. There were two through platforms in the Down direction, the outer one being used mainly by ex-Midland through trains from the Peterborough East direction and occupied here by a train. Over on the right is the Great Northern Hotel. |
