Summary[edit]

Description
English: Photograph of D. McClew, one of a group of photos of the Deseronto branch of the Sons of Scotland. A notice in The Tribune of November 27, 1903, states that the group met on the second Thursday of each month in the Masonic Building (the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/deserontoarchives/tags/clementblock/">Clement Block</a>).

A David McClew (mis-transcribed as McCliv) is listed in the 1901 census for Deseronto. He was born on 9 Sep 1858 in Scotland and came to Canada in 1884. Living with him was his wife, Margret, who was born in the West Indies on 6 Jan 1859 and who came to Canada in 1869.

An http://genforum.genealogy.com/mcclue/messages/9.html on the genealogical site Genealogy.com notes that the couple were married at St. Mark's Church, Deseronto, on 4 Jun 1889. Margaret's parents are named as Thomas G. and Elenor Pile. An http://www.sfredheritage.on.ca/deathsobitsPQ.html for Eleanor Ann Pile on the South Frederickburgh Heritage website notes that Thomas Gibbes Pile was the first collector of customs for Deseronto. The obituary was written in 1907, at which time Margaret was living in Galt.
