Summary
[edit]DescriptionPolly Peacham's Tower - geograph.org.uk - 556398.jpg |
English: Polly Peacham's Tower According to one local tale, Lavinia Fenton, who played Polly Peacham on the London stage, was so fond of singing that she began to irritate her husband, Lord Bolton. He built this tower for her, so that she could sit up here and sing to her heart's content - well out of range of his lordship at Bolton Hall. Another story refers to nearby Wensley church [SE0989], where it is said that the Bolton family pew was constructed from the theatre box where his lordship sat to watch his wonderful Lavinia. |
