| Description |
English: Porth Hellick Pool, St. Mary's The view from one of the hides of this SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). A heron is keeping quite still in the reeds (left of centre). In addition to its importance as the largest area of freshwater on St. Mary's, and catchments for drinking water, it is also popular with waders and wild fowl. Higher Moors and this pool are nationally famous for rare vagrant birds and also less common passage migrants such as Spotted Crake or Jack Snipe. |
