Title
Post-medieval token: Watlington trade token
Description
English: A complete copper alloy farthing trade token dating to the post-medieval period. The undated token was issued between AD 1648-1672 by Richard Haines of Watlington, Oxfordshire. Registers show that Richard Haines was buried in June 1688. In his estate records he is described as bayliff, and it appears that he was Bayliff of the Chiltern Hundreds in AD 1687 and 1688 (Milne 1935:44). He had seven children baptised between AD 1666 and 1676 (ibid:43).
