Description

O presidente do Senado Federal, senador Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), recebe a ministra da Secretaria de Direitos Humanos, Ideli Salvati, e a diretora do Human Rights Watch, Maria Laura Canineu.

A organização internacional de direitos humanos Human Rights Watch entrega ao presidente do Senado uma carta pedindo providências quanto a prática de tortura por policiais e agentes públicos no Brasil. Num relatório encaminhado ao governo federal e ao Congresso Nacional, a entidade afirma ter identificado 64 casos de tortura e tratamento cruel ocorridos nos Estados de São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Bahia e Paraná. Maria Laura relata ao presidente que, frequentemente, as violações ocorrem durante o primeiro dia de prisão.
