tes in theenvelopes only a few days before they are used. The plates should be kept in the dark room or a safe and should notbe removed until the machine has been adjusted and the degree ofvacuum of the tube has been established. When the penetration of thetube has been established, the plate is placed film side toward the target(of the tube) on the table; the part to be radiographed is resting on theplate or is brought into as close contact with it as possible and the tubesome distance above, so that the target is directly over the center ofthe part to be radiographed. 116 Anthony Matijaca THE DISTANCE from the target to the plate is usually from 16 to 24inches, but the shorter the distance, the greater will be the magnificationof the image on the plate. THE DURATION OF EXPOSURE is a matter of judgment, and variesaccording to the generator employed, the distance from the target tothe plate, the vacuum of the tube, the/weight of the patient, and the sizeof the part being radiographed.
