Priory Church of St Mary, Letheringham: ancient coat of arms
Description

Inscribed tablets (remnants of old destroyed monuments) to:

  • Top: Sir Thomas Wingfield (1555-22 January 1609)
  • Bottom: Sir Anthony Wingfield, MP (c.1554 – 1605)

The shield above, 32 quarterings impaling 25 quarterings, is seemingly not of the Wingfield family, as the Wingfield arms (Argent, on a bend gules three wings conjoined in lure of the field) do not feature in the first quarters of either dexter or sinister halves. (neither 1&32 of dexter (husband), which appear to be Argent, three ..... sable, nor 1&25 of sinister (wife), which appear to be Gules, three escallops or on a chief argent a demi-lion rampant azure).
