dsubject made a record of twenty-four points on the seventy-twopoints common to the two scales. This, divided by seventy-two,yields 33 per cent, which is, for the purpose of comparison withseeing children, considered this childs Yerkes-Bridges score. These scores were averaged for year groups. These averagesfor year groups are plotted as a curve in the solid line of Figure3. The dotted line indicates the Yerkes-Bridges averages forfour hundred and sixty-eight children of English speakingparentage. In comparison, the blind score lower from IX toXIII years inclusive. But the amount of departure from thetentative norms for seeing children, is at no point greater thanthe differences which Yerkes and Bridges find between the lan-guage groups at XII and XIII years.^ These differences cannot be made the ground, therefore, for maintaining a generalmental inferiority of the blind, even in these years. HAINES indications, at VII, VIII, and XlV-years, are for a superiorityin the mental processes tested by these tests. When the irregu-larities, inherent in the small numbers examined, are removedfrom this curve, it is highly probably there will be a much closercorrespondence with the attainments of seeing children, year byyear. It will be observed there are only one Vll-year, one VIII-year, and two IX-year olds represented in this curve, presentingthe averages of year groups of blind children. This comparisonwith the Yerkes-Bridges results seems to indicate that we havein the point scale a reliable means of measpsychologicalmon21amer
