Summary[edit]
DescriptionPulpit steps - geograph.org.uk - 1228862.jpg |
English: Pulpit steps. The 'Sacred pool' shown in 428707 and 94988 is just visible top right. From the rock platform into which the pool has been cut, this flight of steep stone steps leads down to an area of Dunino Den reputed to have been used in bygone days for Druid worship. It is still being used by some in the 21st century for some sorts of ceremony, to which trees festooned with flags and ribbons bear witness.
There is a fascinating theory that the existence of Dunino is the reason St Andrews came to be located where it is. This theory is detailed in "Origin of St Andrews - Moon, Magicians & Maidens in Fife" by Richard A. Batchelor (Sheiling Publications - ISBN 0 9516986 1 3) |
