Description
日本語: 卑南社蕃人男女の正裝。臺東の西方卑南社の附近の蕃人は昔はピユーマ族と稱きれて居たが今はパイワン族の中に入れられて居る。服裝の華美なる事，北方のタイヤル族等と比較して見る，同じ臺灣の蠻族でこれだけの差があるかと驚く程である。刺繡をよくし，特に肩から斜に掛けて居る檳榔の實を入れる袋などは賞に見事に刺繡してある。寫真の男の肩から掛けて居る胸飾は銀の鎖，パイワン族特有のトンボ玉と稱するがラス玉の首飾もかけて居る。蕃刀は鞘刃及の片面を掩ふにすぎない所は臺灣蕃族を通じて殆ど同じであるが，柄や鞘に彫刻や象眼をして頗る裝飾の凝つて居る所はパイリン族の蕃刀が北部の蕃人のきれに比して好事家に珍重される所以である。（宮本延人，臺北帝國大學土俗人種學研究室助手）
