Summary
[edit]DescriptionQueen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge - geograph.org.uk - 1524048.jpg |
English: Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge The hunting lodge was built in 1543 for Henry VIII. It was used for royal hunting expeditions allowing deer on Chingford Plain to be shot using crossbows fired from the upper storeys. In the 1990s the building was restored and covered with a white limewash that protects the timbers from insects and the weather. To the left of the Lodge is the Royal Forest, a pub dating from Victorian times. |
