Arad — 787 — Arad nem teljesen körülfogva van A. vára, sáncárok-kal övezett hatszögü erőd, közepén a tiszti épü-letek, a vártemplom és a helyőrségi kórházzal(előbb ferencrendi kolostor), köröskörül kazama-tákkal, összesen (1900) 1259 lakóval (katonaság). Avár 1763—83. épült 6 millió K költségen; gr. Vé-csey Károly honvédtábornok 9 havi ostrom után1849 június 30-án csak kiéheztetéssel birta meg-adásra kényszeríteni, de aug. 17.
