Description A Royal Australian Air Force reconnaissance photo of Truk Lagoon on 9 January 1942, showing Eten Island in the lower right. The reconnaissance mission was flown by flight Lieutenant Yeowart and crew in a specially fitted Lockheed Hudson Mk IV of No. 6 Squadron RAAF. This operation invovled a return flight of 2261 km from Kavieng, New Britain, and was the longest sea reconnaissance which the RAAF had undertaken in a land based aircraft. The concentration of enemy shipping and aircraft seen at Truk gave warning of the Japanese thrust south to New Britain and New Ireland in the next two weeks.
