| Description |
English: Railway bridge, near Haydon Wick, Swindon This bridge is still in active service despite its having been built by a long-gone if not forgotten railway company. I think I have my chronology right in that the Midland and South Western Railway Company wanted to extend their existing line from Andover to Swindon north to Cheltenham at some time after the Great Western Railway built their line from Swindon to Gloucester so the M&SWJR had to construct this bridge to carry their line beneath the GWR metals. The Gloucester line is still in use so the bridge remains to fulfil its original purpose. |
