One of the main sponsors of the club was Mondi owners of Holcombe Paper Mill which has been an integral part of the Ramsbottom industrial landscape for more than 150 years and can be seen in the picture adjacent to the ground. For many years, it operated under the banner of Ramsbottom Paper Mill before it became Holcombe Paper Mill Company in 1964. In September 2008 it was announced that due to crippling energy costs and other operational difficulties the mill would close down in December 2008 with the loss of over 90 jobs. According to Mondi, the value of the Holcombe Mill land, buildings and other assets is £1.2 million and the total cost of closure would be around £4 million. http://www.burytimes.co.uk/news/3701185.print/ |
