Summary
[edit]DescriptionRat Proof Can New Orleans Cartoon.jpg |
English: 1910s cartoon by Louis A. Winterhalder, probably for the Daily Picayune or the Times-Picayune, New Orleans. Depicts a slightly anthropomorphized rat wearing a bowler hat and carrying a grip bag labeled "Fleas" exclaiming "Can you beat it" at sight of a "rat proof can", a lidded metal trash can. Probably connected with the big civic push at rat control and elimination which followed discovery of rats carrying plague at a ship in New Orleans in 1914. |
