Summary
[edit]DescriptionRemains of St. Simons Chapel - geograph.org.uk - 126771.jpg |
English: Ruin of the former chapel of SS Simon and Jude, near Caldbergh, Coverdale, North Yorkshire. A plaque at the site states: These are the remains of the chapel dedicated to St. Simon and St. Jude first recorded in 1328. Like most early chapels in the Dales, it was a chapel of ease. Here people could worship without travelling long distances to the Parish Church at Coverham. By 1582 the chapel was described as ruined but 4 years later part of the building was used as an alehouse. |
