| Description |
English: Remains of the Chain Pier The small black objects in the water may look like rocks but are actually the remnants of the wooden piles used on the original Chain Pier which operated from 1823 until its destruction by a storm in 1896 though it was due for demolition once the Palace Pier had been built. The last remnants were disappeared from view in the 1930s until last year's very low spring tide allowed historians to walk up to them for the first time in 50 years. This year the sea has not receded enough and only the tops of the piles are visible. The starfish just happened to be there. |
