Summary
[edit]DescriptionRemnants of a Thor Missile Launch Pad - geograph.org.uk - 451443.jpg |
English: Remnants of a Thor Missile Launch Pad Extending from either side of each Thor missile launch pad was a raised concrete trackway which provided the base for a store building that protected the missile in its horizontal state. When the missile was to be prepared for launch, the store building could be drawn back off the missile allowing the latter to be raised to the vertical. This view, looking towards the centre of the pad, shows a small part of the dismantled trackway for the store building of the most westerly of the three former launch pads at Polebrook, dismantled in 1963. |
