| Description |
English: Restricted junction on the A31, Stoney Cross, New Forest Here the minor road from Emery Down meets the A31(T) dual carriageway. The dual carriageway is fenced and access to it gridded so that commoners' stock do not stray onto the main road. Before the dual carriageway was constructed this was a crossroads, with the minor road carrying on past Fritham to Long Cross and eventually Nomansland. There were plans to make this junction a grade-separated junction, but it was rejected on the grounds that it would have too great an impact on the Forest (in particular the large amount of land required would then not be available for grazing). This is not an easy place to slip onto the southwest-bound carriageway of the main road as the approaching traffic has just come around a left-wards bend. |
